Ceilidh Camp

July 6-10, 2026

  • A day camp for young fiddle, violin, guitar and piano players ages 7-13y in Halifax!

Prepare to deep-dive into the vast world of traditional and modern folk music from Cape Breton to Quebec, Ireland to Galicia to Norway & beyond. We’ll talk style, ornaments & GROOVE. We’ll improve our chops and jam a lot. We’ll laugh until our stomachs hurt and play until our fingers callous - in a rock n’ roll fiddle kind of way. Finally, we’ll end the week with an East Coast kitchen party.

We’ll learn folk songs and tunes, and maybe write a few of our own. In addition to plenty of time for jamming, students can expect guided yoga and stretching sessions, lunchtime picnics, silly games like musical charades, indigo dye-ing, stage decorating, and more.

Teen Folk Band Leadership Camp

July 6-10, 2026

  • A day camp for musical teens who play fiddle, violin, guitar, and piano. Designed for students 14+ who are proficient on their instrument, this week centres on collaboration, creativity, and musical leadership.

Students will dive into traditional and modern folk music from Cape Breton to Quebec, Ireland to Galicia, Norway, and beyond. Together, we’ll explore style, ornaments, and—most importantly—groove. With a strong focus on ensemble playing, campers will build their chops while learning to listen, respond, and lead within a group. Jamming is at the heart of the week, fostering confidence and musical initiative.

This camp operates as a work-study arrangement. In addition to receiving high-quality instruction, students will support the camp community by helping set up activities and assisting instructors with tasks such as photocopying and organizing materials. Teens will not be asked to supervise younger students, and an adult instructor will always be present.

The week balances 1:1 coaching and group sessions with expert instructors, offering both personalized feedback and shared learning. We’ll learn tunes, create group arrangements, experiment with original music, and encourage students to step into leadership roles. The week culminates in an East Coast Kitchen Party showcase, created in collaboration with instructors and Ceilidh Campers.

  • Yes! Thanks to the generosity & support of our community, we are able to offer scholarship opportunities to 2026 Merry Time Music Co. Summer Campers. Our hope is to encourage a strong generation of music makers by offsetting some of the tuition for applicants who otherwise would not be able to afford to attend camp.
